Meet Luther

25-Year Resident. Bronze Star Veteran. Builder. Neighbor.

Luther Moon has spent the last 25 years building a life — and a legacy — in Honea Path. As a decorated veteran, small business owner, and committed community leader, he’s never been one to sit on the sidelines when something needs fixing.Luther served with honor for 11 years in the U.S. Army, including tours with both the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division.

visions. He’s a Bronze Star recipient whose service took him to Germany, Korea, and Vietnam during times of global crisis. That experience shaped his sense of discipline, integrity, and teamwork — values he brings into every project he takes on.

After the military, Luther applied his leadership skills to the private sector. As a licensed general contractor and small business owner, he built a reputation for finishing jobs on time, under budget, and with an eye for revitalization and historical preservation. He’s known around town not just as a builder of properties — but as a builder of opportunity.

His commitment to Honea Path runs deep. Luther has served for years as president of the Honea Path Merchants Association, where he’s helped launch successful festivals and events like the Sugarfoot Festival, Honea Path’s Got Talent, and one of the state’s largest car shows. In 2016, he was honored as Citizen of the Year for his outstanding contributions to the town’s prosperity and community spirit.

Alongside his wife Yoshiko — a licensed High Master artist — Luther has supported arts education, mentored young people, and brought culture and creativity to the heart of town. Whether restoring a landmark building or helping a resident navigate local red tape, Luther is the kind of person who shows up, gets involved, and follows through.

He’s also a lifelong horseman, record-setting racer, scuba diver, and licensed pilot — the kind of man who follows through, finishes strong, and always shows up ready to work.

Luther's Honea Path Story

Luther and Yoshiko’s journey in Honea Path began with a chance discovery — a vacant historic storefront downtown. They saw more than just a building. They saw a future.

With the blessing of then-Mayor Lollis, they transformed the old general store into their home and an art gallery, launching a lasting relationship with the community. Soon after, Luther opened a computer repair business and became deeply involved in civic life. The couple joined the Merchants Association, eventually taking on leadership roles that would help double the size and scope of local events.

From Spring Fling to Honea Path’s Got Talent, the Sugarfoot Festival to one of the state’s largest car shows, they brought life, joy, and visitors back downtown. In 2016, Luther and Yoshiko were honored together as Citizens of the Year.

Their story is one of creativity, restoration, and service — and it’s far from over.

Why He’s Running

Luther isn’t a politician — he’s a problem solver. He’s running for mayor because Honea Path is a town with heart, history, and potential — and it’s time for leadership that reflects that.

Too many decisions have been made behind closed doors, with the same small circle calling the shots. It’s left families frustrated, small businesses struggling, and the town stagnant. Luther knows we can do better — and that starts with honest leadership, community-wide involvement, and a practical, forward-looking plan for growth.

“The town isn’t just the buildings — it’s the people who live and grow their families here. I want to make Honea Path the best place it can be — a town we’re proud to raise our kids in, invest in, and call home.”

As mayor, Luther will focus on cleaning up neglected areas, restoring Main Street charm, creating safe and family-friendly spaces, and bringing transparency and accountability back to Town Hall. He believes in working alongside residents — not above them — and in setting realistic, community-driven goals that reflect the heart of this town.

If elected, Luther won’t bring political baggage. He’ll bring work gloves, blueprints, and a listening ear — because he knows Honea Path’s best days are ahead, and he’s ready to help build them.
